Katherine "Katie" Iola Pass, 89

Katherine "Katie" Iola Pass, age 89, of Rensselaer passed away May 12, 2015, at the Rensselaer Care Center. Katie was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on May 19, 1925, the daughter of Lloyd Stiles and Helen (Horsewood) Stiles Sheffer. She lived most of her lifetime in and around Rensselaer and was a 1943 graduate of Rensselaer High School.

Katie married her sweetheart, Calvin "Cal" Waren Pass, in Rensselaer on April 10, 1945. Cal preceded her in death on April 4, 2004. Katie and Cal could be found doing the things they loved, bowling and square dancing. Katie also enjoyed going camping and horseback riding.

She retired after 24 years as a sales clerk with Sears, Roebuck and Company in Rensselaer. Katie later worked at the Rensselaer Republican for 15 years. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1279 and the Jasper County Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer where she was active in the United Methodist Women Circle.

Surviving is her loving family, daughter, Nancy Lee Wagner, of Tucson, Arizona, grandsons, Kevin S. Wagner and Brian K. Wagner, both of McHenry, Illinois, great-grandsons, Jakob and Cole Wagner, half sister, Lucille Hagedain, of Kokomo, Ind., and half brother, Glen (Susie) Sheffer, of Indianapolis, Ind. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Calvin, a brother, Hubert Stiles, and two half brothers, Robert Sheffer and Arthur Sheffer.

Friends may visit with the family at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm CDT. Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10:00 am CDT with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer.
